Hints and Tips for Hearing Aid Care and Batteries | ||||

| 1. | Keep aid clean. Use soft tissue and the cleaning tools provided. Do not use any liquid on the aid. | |||
| 2. | Never shower or bathe with aid in your ears. Do not remove your aid in the bathroom but in your bedroom before entering the bath. Many people have lost their aid down the sink or toilet. | |||
| 3. | Never use hairspray while you are wearing your hearing aid. | |||
| 4. | Never place your aid near heat or direct sunlight. | |||
| 5. | Never set your aid down while still on. | |||
| 6. | Pet is annoyed by the noise and will | |||
| 7. | chew the aid. | |||
| 8. | See or call Kevin if your hearing aid is not functioning properly, or if you just can't hear. | |||

The proper care and cleaning of your aid will increase its life and can make the difference between continuous and satisfactory use or experiencing frequent problems. | |||
| Battery Care and Disposal | ||||

Never change the batteries or adjust the controls of the hearing aid in front of infants, small children and persons of mental incapacity. | |||
| 11. | Discard batteries carefully where they can't be reached by small children or pets. | |||
| 12. | Always check medication before swallowing, as batteries have been mistaken for tablets. | |||

Never allow others to wear your hearing aid, as it could be misused and permanently damage another's hearing. | |||
| 14. | Never put hearing aid or batteries in your mouth for any reason, as they are slippery and may be swallowed. | |||
| 15. |
Hearing aid may stop functioning: for instance if the battery goes dead. You should be aware of this possibility, in particular when you circulate in traffic or other wise depend on warning sounds. | |||

ADAPTING TO YOUR HEARING AID | ||||
|
Be Patient - Your attitude is vital to the successful adaptation to your hearing aid. No hearing aid can restore normal hearing or prevent or improve a hearing impairment resulting from organic conditions. | ||||
| Start with a comfortable volume level in a quiet environment. | ||||
| Learn to concentrate on one conversation while ignoring background noises and other group conversations. | ||||
| Learn to live with your aided hearing level. Once you become accustomed to your aid you should be wearing it most of the time. | ||||
| In most cases, infrequent use of a hearing aid does not permit a user to attain full benefit from it. | ||||
| The use of a hearing aid is only part of hearing habilitation and may need to be supplemented by auditory training and instruction in lip-reading. | ||||
| Learn to use your aid for your family. Start hearing what you're missing. | ||||
